Magazine publisher to close offices for West Virginia Day
In celebration of West Virginia’s 155th birthday, New South Media editor and publisher Nikki Bowman has announced she will close the magazines’ offices on West Virginia Day, Wednesday, June 20. But employees won’t be spending the day at home.
“Our mission at New South Media is to change perceptions of West Virginia—not just how others look at us, but how we, as West Virginians, look at ourselves. And one way to fall even more in love with our beautiful state is to get out and experience it,” Bowman says. “So, this West Virginia Day, we are walking the walk. Each of us at New South Media will celebrate our state by experiencing some aspect of what makes her ‘Almost Heaven.’”
Members of the public can follow employees’ adventures on Facebook, Instagram and Twitter with the hashtag #weareWVLiving. Bowman encourages other West Virginians to use the hashtag, too.
“By sharing your authentic experiences on social media and tagging #weareWVLiving, not only will you inspire others with places worth visiting, but your posts will also be featured in an upcoming issue of ‘WV Living’ magazine,” Bowman says.
Founded in 2008 by Bowman, a Clay County native, Morgantown-based New South Media, Inc. publishes “WV Living,” “WV Weddings” and “Morgantown” magazines.
The company also produces “Wonderful West Virginia” magazine for the West Virginia Division of Natural Resources and has created custom travel guides for the Summit Bechtel Family National Scout Reserve, the state Tourism Office, the city of Elkins and other organizations. New South Media recently won a national contract to publish the U.S. Small Business Administration’s 68 annual “Small Business Resource Guide” magazines tailored to each of the agency’s national and district offices across the country.
