BUCKHANNON — The Buckhannon City Council held a regular meeting in person at City Hall on Thursday evening. Members of the community were welcome to attend by calling in or visiting in person, with masks required.

Before the moment of silence, Mayor Robbie Skinner asked the residents of Buckhannon to keep Jim Valenson and the family of Eugene Charles Suder in their prayers.

Lynn Gibbs visited the Council to make a complaint regarding the poor appearance of a property near downtown Buckhannon. He also addressed the alleyway as a liability, describing it as a “disaster” and mentioned a pipe sticking out, worried someone could get hurt. “It is ugly. It is also a liability, it has to be,” Gibbs said.  City Council agreed to further consider Gibb’s concerns and took the matter under advisement.

David Howell reviewed and explained the CPA-Audit Exit Conference FY 2018/2019. The city approved the 2019 audit report.

Laura Meadows, Executive Director of Upshur County Convention & Visitors Bureau, gave the annual report for 2020. She talked about advertising the safety of the area and promoting outdoor recreation offered in the area. She also mentioned that a new Strawberry Festival website is in progress.
